A popular way of marketing a product is done online, known as Web Marketing. Using different techniques to advertise online can be quite effective but in some cases can aggravate users while they are browsing the web.

One of these methods that can be used is Display Media Advertising. This method uses different text, image and/or video media advertisement to encourage users to follow through to that website and browse or purchase their products (Whatley, 2019). This method is one that can have a negative impact for users as these advertisements can typically be found as pop-up ads and in many cases can interrupt a user’s browsing or interrupt their enjoyment in the case of mobile games and apps. Advertising like this, costs the company to do so but can offer the return if the advertisement is well put together and a user purchases the product.

A second is SEO or Search Engine Optimisation. Using this method, a business can drive activity towards their product without the additional costs of paid advertisement. If a business has a website, they can use the algorithm to appear in more search results and hopefully therefore have higher traffic on the web. To use the algorithm, having specific words on the sites or pages and in the titles or links of each can better the result of a search, Again, having those specific words in the links to your site will help a lot, another area where links help is from other pages. If a different site is using yours as a recommendation this will boost the credibility of your site and show the algorithm that your site can be trusted (What Is SEO / Search Engine Optimisation? - Search Engine Land, n.d.).

Lastly, Content Marketing. This can be informative and educational whilst also being entertaining. An example of what I mean, is gameplay trailers for games. When advertising a new game, an update or new content a developer can use a gameplay trailer with cutscenes and dialogue from characters to create ‘hype’ for the product. This piece of media can get people talking about the product and on the internet today it is very possible that if many people enjoy what they see, they can and will share it with others and this can spread across the internet and can drive a lot of traffic to the product.
